Can become an  trip hazards and should be repaired immediately.

Why is My Concrete Cracking ?

Concrete driveway
One of the main things that attribute a poor driveway is cracks. Any type of driveway can be subject to cracks, but it shouldn’t happen for years after installation. If you notice that your driveway is cracking before it should be, there could be a few reasons as to why.

Tree Roots Uplifting Concrete

Tree roots can be notorious for causing driveway cracks. As the roots grow and expand underneath your driveway, they cause pressure on the subbase. The pressure forces the material upward, which will result in surface tension that eventually splits the driveway. If you have trees near your driveway, your best protection against cracking is installing a thicker driveway with a stronger base and adding a tree-root barrier along both sides. To fix this issue Excavation to removal of the tree root & old broken concrete that was uplifted by the root.

Concrete Driveway Sinking

  • Before your concrete driveway is installed on to your  home. Your concrete driveway will have to be leveled and sub-graded to 95% compaction to ensure proper structural support for the concrete driveway. If the sub grade is not compacted properly. Overtime from the weigh of vehicles, this can causes voids appear underneath the concrete slab allowing it  to settle.

Its Too Cold To Pour Concrete !

Cracks and/or movement in the driveways can occur due to failure to protect the new pour from freezing, combined with poor site drainage or incomplete site preparation. Either frost heave (frozen water expanding and pushing on the driveway or foundation), settlement can occur in a new foundation, exacerbated if these conditions occur during particularly wet conditions followed by freezing weather. Whats is known as the freeze/thaw cycle tends to be one of the most common causes of driveway cracks. The expansion of the solid material forces it to separate, which causes cracking. Using traditional rock salt doesn’t do much to prevent this cycle from occurring since it doesn’t lower the freezing temperature of water by much.

Repairing Your Concrete Driveway Now !

Concrete Driveway
Concrete Driveway Repair is most often done for cracks in the concrete. These cracks are usually caused by fluctuations in temperature, which make the material expand and condense, eventually cracking the surface. Have those cracks repaired as soon as possible, because once they get more than a quarter-inch wide, there may be deeper damage beneath the surface. If you’re dealing with a larger crack or a hole, then you can have it patched. Keep in mind that the repair will be visible and will only be a temporary solution; eventually, you will need to have the repair done again or replace the concrete driveway altogether.

Replacement is best for any damaged concrete driveways that are over 20 years old, as it is reaching the end of its lifespan anyway and the repairs will no longer be cost-effective.  It’s also the best choice for those who care about the look of their driveway. After all, this surface takes up a substantial portion of your front yard and does contribute to your curb appeal. Replacement will give you a beautiful new surface, rather than unappealing patches or crack fillers.
